onsemi has entered into a strategic agreement under which it will supply diodes and MOSFETs from the EliteSiC line to Kempower which will use them for its scalable electric vehicle (EV) charging solutions. The collaboration between the two companies will provide Kempower with a wide range of power semiconductors, including onsemi's EliteSic line, for the development of its EV charging solutions. These devices will be used in the active AC-DC front-end and primary and secondary DC-DC converters.

"With onsemi's EliteSiC power devices," pointed out Petri Korhonen, chief engineer of Kempower, "we will be able to improve the efficiency and reduce the size and weight of our electric vehicle charging solutions. In addition to this, onsemi's vertically integrated supply chain and its broad portfolio of smart power solutions provide the stability needed to continue to offer cutting-edge electric vehicle charging solutions."

The integration of onsemi's EliteSiC MOSFETs will enable Kempower to develop electric vehicle charging solutions with improved specifications in terms of performance, power, and reliability. Due to reduced ON resistance and minimum values of gate and output capacitances, EliteSiC series power devices are characterized by lower power losses at high frequencies, resulting in increased system efficiency and decreased system size. Therefore, Kempower's electric vehicle charging solutions will be characterized by higher power density and better overall reliability. Scalable and connected to the cloud, Kempower's charging solutions provide the modularity that vehicle fleet managers and charging point operators require to adapt their systems according to demand.

"With our manufacturing capability and a resilient SiC device supply chain," said Asif Jakwani, senior vice president and general manager of onsemi 's Advanced Power Division , "we will be able to ensure Kempower's supply of high-quality products both now and in the future. The integration of extremely reliable power devices enables the manufacture of EVCs distinguished by the robust and durable qualities that Kempower and its customers expect."
