Semtech Corporation has signed a strategic agreement with Amazon Web Services, Inc. (AWS) to license its Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS)-based LoRa Cloud™ geolocation services to help the global AWS developer community create asset tracking and monitoring solutions and connect Internet of Things (IoT)-connected devices using LoRa Edge™ to the cloud.

"The collaboration between the two companies greatly expands the availability of LoRa Cloud geolocation services worldwide, making it easier for developers to build global asset tracking and monitoring solutions and to connect and enable new IoT solutions," said Mohan Maheswaran, president and CEO of Semtech. "Providing reliable and seamless LoRaWAN connectivity service at scale is critical to the development of a smarter, more sustainable and connected planet."

The AWS IoT Core Device Location service is available globally in seven regions and can be used immediately with AWS IoT Core. Semtech's LoRa Edge device-to-Cloud solution is highly versatile, with a low-power, software-defined platform that provides indoor and outdoor geolocation capabilities via a LoRa® transceiver and multiband LR-FHSS connections supporting global terrestrial and satellite LoRaWAN® networks. This scalable, low-power, low-cost technology is ideal for many IoT applications in diverse markets, including industry, agriculture, construction, transportation, and logistics.

"The complexity of having to work with multiple vendors to create and deploy geolocation services for asset management has traditionally been a challenging and time-consuming process for IoT solution developers," says Yasser Alsaied, vice president of IoT at AWS. "Today, our customers can combine LoRa Edge capabilities with a range of AWS services managed through a single console and with centralized billing. This integration gives our global AWS ecosystem the ability to build and connect track-and-trace solutions very quickly and easily."

The customer benefits of AWS IoT Core Device Location

  • Simplified development experience for creating asset tracking solutions using LoRa Edge and AWS devices, resulting in reduced time to market
  • The LoRa Edge platform enables ultra-low-power devices that can provide uninterrupted operation for several years on a single battery.
  • Management via a single console of AWS IoT Core and LoRa Cloud
  • Regional availability in seven regions
