Renesas Electronics Corporation has unveiled what will be its Wi-Fi technology offerings after theacquisition of Celeno.

Renesas' Wi-Fi solutions now combine with the Japanese company's Microcontrollers and Microprocessors offerings. "In the past year, we have completed three acquisitions that significantly enhance our ability to concretely deliver complete solutions ranging from cloud to endpoint," said Sailesh Chittipeddi, Executive Vice President and General Manager of the IoT and Infrastructure Business Unit at Renesas. "With Celeno's Wi-Fi solutions, Dialog's low-power connectivity solutions and Reality AI's integrated artificial intelligence solutions added to our portfolio of embedded processing, analog and sensor components, Renesas now offers customers complete end-to-end solutions."

Renesas is already able to provide samples of a highly integrated combo chip that includes both Wi-Fi and BLE with the addition of 2×2 MIMO functionality. This combo chip supports triple-band Wi-Fi 6E switchable between 6 GHz, 5 GHz and 2.4 GHz as well as a data transfer bandwidth (Data Link Speed) of up to 2.4 Gbps with a channel bandwidth of 160 MHz. The new chipset features a very low latency time and a high level of data security protection, includes support for Bluetooth 5.2 communication and is targeted at streaming multimedia applications, IoT gateways and cloud-connected IoT devices.

The Winning Combinations combine integrated Wi-Fi 6 and 6E chipsets with a wide range of Renesas solutions, including embedded processing, analog products, power, timing, and connectivity. These engineering-tested Winning Combinations will cover applications ranging from a high throughput Wi-Fi 6 router for home gateways to an IEEE 1588 wireless solution for 5G networks. Other combinations with Wi-Fi 6 are in development, including an IP videophone, a smart home security terminal, and expansion of Renesas' IoT Quick-Connect platform to include a Wi-Fi 6 USB stick to enable users to rapidly prototype.

A new Quick-Connect Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth Low Energy 5.2 module will also be released for IoT applications that need a high-bandwidth, high-performance Wi-Fi 6 client with 2×2 MIMO. This fully integrated, RF-qualified module will feature a flexible footprint with PCIe and USB interfaces, saving design time and simplifying procurement for faster time-to-market.
