Mouser Electronics is significantly expanding its large headquarters and global distribution center to continue to meet the needs of its business between now and the next decade. The company recently began construction on a three-story building of more than 38,500 square feet that will expand its distribution center, located south of Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas.
"With a larger warehouse area and continued investment in automation and personnel, Mouser is preparing for the future while ensuring the highest levels of customer service as early as today," says Pete Shopp, Senior Vice President of Corporate Activities at Mouser Electronics. "The tools and systems we have installed represent another way we can help reduce our customers' time to market."
Upon completion of the new building, Mouser's 78-acre global headquarters and huge distribution center will span nearly 140,000 square feet to house the vast inventory of 1 million unique SKUs related to products and technologies from more than 1,200 electronic component manufacturers. The new building will feature a three-story floor plan, state-of-the-art automation, and a suspension bridge connection to the existing distribution center building. Overall, the new addition will solidify Mouser's position as one of the most advanced players in the receiving, order fulfillment and shipping segments of the e-commerce segment.
In spring 2022, Mouser finished the installation of 120 vertical modules (VLMs), the highest number globally. VLM modules are basically huge containers equipped with shelves and an automatic pull-out system that allows components to be transported to the staff workstation. These modules increase efficiency, limit clutter, and reduce employee walking trips by at least 45 percent.
In addition to the impressive VLM system, the distribution center is equipped with Ultipack and I-Pack machines (a sophisticated automated system that allows sealing and labeling of packages to be shipped, and is capable of processing up to 14 orders per minute), and an OPEX Perfect Pick system for grouping items and an AutoStore system.
