Arrow Electronics has signed an agreement with the Israeli company Appletecunder which Appletec will produce a range of compact camera modules (CCMs) exclusively for Arrow.

CCMs are intended for developers who wish to add integrated vision functionality to products used in a variety of sectors, including industrial, medical, security and automotive. A customisation service will be available to support a variety of interconnect solutions.

The choice of CCM will depend on a number of factors, depending on the requirements of the application. For example, the amount of detail to be captured will determine the choice of resolution and frame rate, while the selected field of view (FOV) and depth of field will define the area to be covered.

Arrow CCMs use onsemi CMOS (complementary metal-oxide semiconductor) image sensors and can use the ISP (image signal processor) on the customer's main board where, to minimise costs, they do not include their own ISP. Two fixed focus CCMs are initially available, offering 0.3 or 4 MP sensors and fields of view ranging from 49° to 84°. Frame rates range from 36.7 fps (at 720p) and 75 fps (at VGA) up to 360 fps. These will soon be joined by a CCM with autofocus and a 13 MP sensor, featuring 30 fps and 64° FOV.

A fourth CCM, based on a 1.26 MP, 30 fps sensor with integrated Image Flow Processor, completes the offer, introducing a vision functionality also for MCU platforms without requiring additional hardware components, to keep project costs down.

System developers can write their own software drivers for CCMs or use the driver produced by eInfochips, an Arrow company, which is expected to be released at the end of Q1 2022.

Companies wishing to further accelerate development times can implement one of Arrow's recently announced reference designs of fully plug-and-play cameras that include the relevant technologies.
