Pickering Interfacesa provider of modular switching and signal simulation solutions for electronic testing and verification, is now a partner of OpenTAP. The company, which also provides cable and connector solutions, diagnostic test tools, application software and software drivers, joins other leading test companies in the open source shared software workshop that enables users to contribute, collaborate and create automated test solutions.

At the heart of OpenTAP is a test sequencer with a scalable architecture proven in hundreds of products and applications. It is designed to support all stages of the product lifecycle, from initial simulation and prototyping to high-volume production. The goal of OpenTAP is to make test automation easier and more accessible to all and to encourage shared experimentation and innovation by inspiring and teaching partners better ways to automate.

Noman Hussain, Vice President, Software and Strategic Business Development, at Pickering Interfaces says: "OpenTAP fits with Pickering's ethos of enabling test engineers to develop the best possible solutions for their specific automated test requirements. We don't want to restrict anyone developing new test platforms by forcing them to choose a standard form factor from a limited catalogue of test hardware; that's why we have over 2,000 modular switching and simulation products. Having an open source solution offers a similar approach for test software, allowing test engineers to create, modify and customise their own test applications without paying thousands in licence fees and without being locked into proprietary solutions."

The Pickering Board Plug-in for OpenTAP supports the entire Pickering product portfolio through a single interface; it comes with open source software, distributed under the MIT Open Source License. It allows you to leverage industry-leading switching hardware, customise the plug-in, fix bugs, make feature requests, and make changes and suggestions to the OpenTAP ecosystem.
