Farnell launches its fourth survey global IoT survey. The survey provides an opportunity for designers and engineers working on Internet of Things (IoT) and Industrial Internet of Things solutions to share information about the market. Responses will also help define the range of products and technical resources Farnell offers to support this diverse and evolving technology.
The survey opened on 10 January and will run until 18 March 2022, with results to be announced in the spring. Participants in the survey (from eligible countries) will be able to enter a competition and have the chance to win an Apple iPAD 10.2-inch or an Amazon gift certificate, worth £250 or £50.
Farnell's annual IoT survey for 2022 is open to designers working on IoT solutions. This year's questions are designed to allow a deep dive into the IoT industry and the answers will provide a greater understanding of the technologies, challenges and opportunities facing IoT solution designers. The results will show how the IoT industry is changing year on year, revealing the full range of potential applications and market trends. Understanding the significant impact COVID-19 has had on IoT developments is another key objective. During 2020-21, the pandemic had a significant impact on the IoT industry, leading to rapid growth in the development of new medical diagnostic and automated testing systems, as well as medical equipment with improved connectivity. Industrial systems have also been negatively affected by global shortages of key manufacturing components and supply chain issues.
Results of the 2021 survey
The previous survey showed the growing role of IoT for industrial automation and control applications, which are essential for the implementation of Industry 4.0. Home automation and artificial intelligence follow as the sectors that are most moving towards IoT technologies. Security continues to be the most important aspect for developers, followed by connectivity and interoperability.
