SEMI called for closer cooperation between EU member states on semiconductor technology, addressing the French Presidency of the Council of the European Union, which begins on 1 January 2022.

SEMI Europe President Laith Altimime and Ceo of Soitec Paul Boudre, Vice-Chairman of SEMI Europe's Advisory Board, have sent a letter to Emmanuel Macron, President of the French Republic, requesting that the French Presidency of the Council of the European Union make the semiconductor industry a key priority to encourage deeper collaboration between member states.

"Only strong leadership among member states and a global semiconductor strategy can help Europe secure its technology vision," said Altimime. "SEMI encourages strong partnerships between Member States to ensure Europe's long-term resilience, economic growth and prosperity."

France is well positioned to promote Europe's technological ambitions and the value of its electronics manufacturing industry. The region is a key pillar of Europe's future industrial leadership and resilience, as stated in the recently published description of the Alliance on Processors and Semiconductor Technologies.European Chips Act and theAlliance on Processors and Semiconductor Technologies, key elements of Europe's technology vision and strategy.

SEMI's position paper, Recommendations for Enhancing the Resilience and Competitiveness of the Semiconductor Ecosystem in Europe, reflects the views of the European semiconductor ecosystem, focusing on manufacturing, innovation, supply chains and skills.
