DIN Rail or DIN rail devices are very common in industrial electronics. Why are these products - power supplies, relays, switches - so classified? The answer is very simple: they are devices which are mounted on a metal rail which is normally placed inside switchboards or enclosures. The DIN rail has a history that goes back more than a hundred years, but it was not until 1950 that it was developed into the current standards by the German institution DIN. Deutsches Institut für NormungDIN.

The advantages of DIN rails are several: as well as being simple to design and wire, they allow devices to be assembled or disassembled just as easily and quickly, and help to save space, with the possibility of having fewer and, above all, more compact devices. Finally, the interchangeability of the devices themselves should be mentioned: thanks to the standardisation of DIN measurements, products from different manufacturers and brands can be used in the same system. There are three main types of DIN rails (which in turn are subdivided into sub-types with different sizes): the most commonly used is the Omega (but also known as "hat" or O-type); a second one with a C section and a last one with a G section, which can be with holes, pre-drilled or completely sealed. Several devices are mounted on a DIN rail, which will be connected together by special terminal blocks, creating modular circuit blocks.

The most commonly used devices on DIN rails are certainly DIN Rail power supplies, which are used in particular in automation systems or switchboards. Delta Electronics, distributed in Italy by Consystemhas an extensive portfolio. They are ideal for every need and sector, with an efficiency of over 90% and certified according to the specific application, to guarantee, first and foremost, safety (ATEX certification, compliance with Maritime DNV GL regulations, etc.). All Delta DIN Rail power supplies have universal AC input voltage ranges (Input Voltage Range: 85/90Vac- 264Vac for single phase, 320-575Vac for three phase) and offer different Output Voltage ranges of 5Vdc, 12Vdc, 24Vdc and 48Vdc for different Ouput Power ranges from 7.5W up to 960W (with many different types of splits). The output current ranges from 0.83A up to 40A. Another strong point of these solutions is their extremely small and compact size: in some cases the footprint is only 75 x 21 x 89.5 mm. Various models are available: with LCD display, LED indicators, models for single-phase, two-phase or three-phase input voltage (Phase Input 1, 2, 3). Finally, other features include: cold start down to -40°; Power Boost (ability to deliver up to 150% more power at start-up) and Advanced Power Boost (intelligent failure management with multiple loads connected); Smart monitoring functions; Fpc.
