According to the 2021 report by International Federation of Robotics (IFR) on the evolution of global robotics, there are more than 3 million industrial robots in use today in factories around the world, an increase of 10%.

In 2020, more than 380,000 new robots were purchased worldwide. The estimate for 2021 is 50,000 more robots than in 2020, a growth rate of 0.5% despite the consequences of the pandemic.

At global level, Asia remains a leader with 71% of the market share of distributed robots in 2020, while Europe has seen an 8% drop generated by the health crisis. The automotive sector, in particular, suffered a 20% reduction, while the industrial sector grew by 14%. Although this slowdown was predictable, the sector continues to expand. Germany is among the top five global robot markets - along with China, Japan, the USA and Korea - with 33% of total installations in Europe, followed by Italy with 13% and France with 8%.

Companies specialising in collaborative solutions are working to integrate new technologies that further enhance the functionality of end-of-arm robots and tools. Among them is OnRobot Italia .Enrico Rigotti, Area Sales Manager in Italy of the Danish company, says: "Despite the consequences of the pandemic, the global robotics market is constantly evolving, and this is particularly true for collaborative robotics, which is expected to increase by 20% in 2021. Cobots are easy to use, work safely with employees and improve the working environment and productivity. These are all features that allow companies to be more competitive. The government needs to encourage awareness-raising among industry players in order to get businesses, especially SMEs, more involved. In addition, the current level of demand gives the market sufficient potential for all cobot manufacturers to work together and respond to future business opportunities."
