AIxIA conferred the status of Honorary Member on Giorgio Parisi, Professor Emeritus of Sapienza University of Rome (formerly Professor of Theoretical Physics), Vice President of the Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei, recipient of the 2021 Nobel Prize in Physics.

Awarded for his studies on complex systems, the link between Parisi and artificial intelligence has always been very close. The work Parisi has been doing since the 1980s, in fact, has several areas of application in our daily lives, ranging from the study of the planetary system to understanding climate change and the development of artificial intelligence systems. The title of Honorary Member recognises the contribution that Parisi's work has made to the enhancement of AI, one of the objectives of the Association.

"Parisi's research on complex systems has been and is still relevant for the advancement of AI, for the extent of the theoretical results and for the vastness and importance of the application fields in which they are implemented", states Piero Poccianti, AIxIA President. "We therefore believe that his contribution can enrich the Association with that multidisciplinary vision that is indispensable for advancing science in general and AI in particular".
