Siemens Digital Industries Software has signed an agreement with Senera multinational company based in Spain, to acquire its FORAN software business , a CAD/CAE/CAM for the design, construction and engineering of ships and marine structures. The addition of Foran's product and team to Siemens, along with its customer base, brings comprehensive experience and know-how in complex commercial maritime projects, defence industry standards and regulatory compliance. Sener Group will maintain and strengthen its traditional marine engineering business line, where it offers design, engineering and consulting services for various types of ships and offshore vessels.

FORAN will be added to Siemens' Xcelerator portfolio, offering a complete and integrated portfolio of software and services covering all aspects of the ship lifecycle, from concept design through production to operations and optimised service lifecycle management.

"The acquisition of FORAN enhances our marine digital twin, adding preeminent capabilities to our integrated digital thread solution for ship design and engineering," said Tony Hemmelgarn, CEO and President, Siemens Digital Industries Software. "By adding FORAN's extensive tools to the Xcelerator portfolio and leveraging the team's industry expertise, we will be able to offer commercial and shipbuilding customers better control of the ship design and manufacturing process as they transition to Shipyard 4.0. "

In today's race towards sustainable shipping, shipyards must innovate faster and deliver greener ships that meet stringent safety and environmental regulations. As the resulting complexity in ship design and construction reaches unprecedented levels, risks and inefficiencies in the current design and production process need to be minimised. Software is key to optimising this process, reducing costs and increasing productivity without compromising quality.

"With more than 150 shipyard and engineering office customers in 40 countries, FORAN technology provides Siemens with a strong position to better support customers across the maritime industry. At the same time, Siemens'global reach and the integration of the FORAN team into Siemens help ensure that existing FORAN customers can continue and improve the services provided with a strategic vision for ongoing developments," said Gabriel Alarcón, Managing Director of Sener Engineering.
