Workers, employers, governments and health and safety agencies around the world, in partnership with the International Labour Organization (ILO), celebrate World Day for Safety and Health at Work on 28 April, highlighting its importance to all.International Labour Organization (ILO), are marking World Day for Safety and Health at Work on 28 April with an emphasis on its importance to all.

TÜV Italiais one of the companies active in this field. Fabrizio Avoni, Technical Coordinator Occupational Health and Safety Schemes of the certifying body, says: "The world day of occupational health and safety becomes even more important because of the period we are all living .All organisations are committed to making the best possible use of their efforts to ensure adequate health and safety standards for all stakeholders".

Avoni emphasises the complexity of the context, with a national legislative framework that imposes obligations, the pressing demands of social partners, workers who need controlled conditions to be able to carry out their duties and companies that need to guarantee their operations to ensure their objectives are met. However, there are useful tools to guide you, such as the ISO/PAS 45005 first edition 2020-12 guideline "Occupational health and safety management - General guidelines for working safely during the COVID-19″ pandemic.

Developed in a few months by the ISO/TC technical committee with the collaboration of experts from over 26 countries, the guideline is generic and is applicable to all organizations, regardless of their type of activity, size or complexity.

The objectives of the Health and Safety Guide

The guide aims to:

  1. take effective action to protect workers and other relevant stakeholders from the risks associated with COVID-19;
  2. demonstrate that it is addressing the risks related to COVID-19 using a systematic approach;
  3. put in place actions to adapt effectively and promptly to changing circumstances.

Organizations, including those applying the ISO 45001 standard, can use the ISO/PAS 45005 guideline to supplement their OSH management system to adopt a systems approach that facilitates the coordination of resources and efforts that is of paramount importance in managing the COVID-19 emergency and its rapid evolution.
