Farnell distributes a wide range of products ON Semiconductorto support a new framework developed by ON Semiconductor, and Avnetto help OEMs more rapidly develop end-to-end Internet of Things (IoT) devices. The new framework simplifies the process of creating IoT-enabled devices through ON Semiconductor's rapid prototyping system solutions, which are pre-configured to connect to IoT application developers and service providers through the cloud.

Avnet's IoTConnect® platform, based on Microsoft® Azure, and the associated Avnet IoT Partner program facilitate this connection. The resulting framework enables OEMs to easily build products and experiences around those products and bring them to market faster, while reducing risk.

The first solution supported by ON Semiconductor is the RSL10 Sensor Development Kit, suitable for applications such as industrial wearables, asset monitoring and smart sensing. The development kit features a Bluetooth® Low Energy Flash-based radio module with the lowest power in the industry and a number of advanced environmental sensors, including an inertial sensor (3-axis accelerometer, 3-axis gyroscope and a low-power smart hub for motion sensing), a geomagnetic sensor and an ambient light sensor. The kit, now available from Farnell, is offered in a basic version (RSL10-SENSE-GEVK) and with debugger (RSL10-SENSE-DB-GEVK).

"With ON Semiconductor's innovative low-power system solutions and robust IoTConnect platform, Avnet and ON Semiconductor provide a secure development environment to launch any IoT initiative," says Wiren Perera, who leads the IoT section at ON Semiconductor. "IoT represents a huge opportunity for OEMs to add autonomy to their products through sensing, connectivity and actualization, which can create new revenue and improve efficiency. ON Semiconductor, Avnet and Farnell can help OEMs drive innovation forward by building smarter devices that meet their customers' needs."

Lou Lutostanski, vice president of IoT, at Avnet, adds, "Avnet, through Avnet Silica and EBV Elektronik in Europe, and ON Semiconductor offer solutions to meet the evolving needs of OEMs and their customers. By leveraging the expertise of the Avnet organization and working closely with ON Semiconductor, we are able to provide new ways to help OEMs stay competitive, optimize revenue potential and make designs with the right technologies to create secure IoT solutions."
