ICE Agencywith the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the Italian Embassy in Brazil and the collaboration of ANIEANIE, with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the Italian Embassy in Brazil and the collaboration of ANIE, organized the webinar "Brazil: business opportunities for electrical engineering & electronic companies".

The meeting was attended by about 50 companies of the sector and represented the first stage of the virtual mission to Brazil, a country that offers interesting opportunities in the sectors of Electrotechnics and Electronics, with particular focus on theEnergy and Renewable Energy markets.

The webinar opened with an introduction by the Italian Ambassador to Brazil, Francesco Azzarello, and ANIE International Relations Manager, Mariarosaria Fragasso. Afterwards, moderated by Ferdinando Fiore, Director of the ICE office in SĂŁo Paulo, the technical panels were held by the local associations ABINEE, ABSOLAR and ABEEOLICA, which gave an overview of the electrotechnical and electronic sectors with a specific focus on the photovoltaic and wind energy segments.

Interesting testimonials that Enel Green Power Brazil and Terna Group brought to the participants, presenting their successful experience in the Brazilian market. The webinar ended with a speech by the law firm Guarnera Advogados, focusing on the legal and customs aspects that Italian companies must take into account when approaching the market.

Brazil is the first destination market for Italian exports of Electrotechnics and Electronics in Latin America. After the setback recorded in 2020 due to the health emergency, an increase in the country's GDP of 3.5% is expected in 2021. Brazil needs important interventions to modernise its infrastructure (it is estimated that 5% of GDP should be dedicated annually to meet this requirement).

Looking at theEnergy market, the sector is characterised by rapid growth in both traditional and renewable sources, in line with the National expansion plan to 2023. The important process of energy transformation and the incentives that the country reserves for innovation open interesting opportunities for Italian companies.

This event will be followed, in the coming weeks, by the organization of a day of B2B meetings in virtual mode on the Smart 365 platform of the ICE Agency; 10-15 Italian companies in the sector and a delegation of Brazilian operators selected by the ICE Office in SĂŁo Paulo are expected to participate.

The importance of foreign markets for Anie companies

The ANIE industry is made up of technologically advanced and highly specialized sectors, which account for 84 billion euros in total turnover and 500,000 employees.

Over time, the foreign channel has made a central contribution to the growth of the sector: the incidence of exports on total turnover is structurally over 50% and exporting companies account for 40% of the total, double the manufacturing average. In recent years, before the Covid-19 crisis, faced with weaker domestic demand, Anie companies have strengthened their presence on foreign markets and have strongly diversified their destination markets on a geographical level, seizing growth opportunities outside the traditional European area. Italian electrotechnical and electronic exports have reached over 200 foreign countries, and over 60% of the top thirty destination markets of the sector are now outside the EU.

In 2020, the performance of the Italian Electrotechnics and Electronics sector is set in a critical macroeconomic context where, in addition to the strong weakness of domestic demand, exports have also slowed down. On the basis of the preliminary figures drawn up by the Anie Study Service, it is estimated that the negative effects of the pandemic have brought the aggregate turnover of the Anie sectors to levels 7.3% lower than in 2019, with even greater losses on the domestic market. Estimates on the future evolution of the sector see a return to pre-Covid levels only in 2022, assuming the containment of the pandemic risk and a positive impact on the industrial system of the support that may come from European programs.
