Farnell has extended its portfolio of passive components with the full range of KOA Europe, with around 2,400 product lines, all available for delivery in Europe.

KOA is a global manufacturer of passive component solutions, specialising in thick and thin film resistors for high reliability applications such as industrial, automotive, aerospace, telecommunications and medical, as well as consumer markets.

Its wide range includes high-reliability thin films, pulse-tolerant/anti-overcurrent thick films, current detectors/shunts, high-voltage and wide-terminal resistors.

As Simon Meadmore, Global Head of IP&E at Farnell, says: "KOA continues to innovate and optimise its passive component solutions, ensuring that designers can easily overcome design and performance challenges. Our customers now have access to the highest quality passive components for automotive, environmental, industrial, medical and telecommunications applications, as well as energy-saving devices, appliances, power units and more. The depth and breadth of Farnell's market-leading range of KOA chip resistors adds more than 360,000 passive components to Farnell's exceptional portfolio.

The full range of KOA passive component solutions now available from Farnell includes:

  • High Reliability Thin Film Resistors - With a T.C.R of up to ±5 ppm and a tolerance of up to ±0.05%, KOA's thin film resistors are ideal for high precision circuits, such as control and monitoring in industrial, medical and automotive applications. The RN73R series offers improved electrolytic corrosion resistance, a wide operating temperature range of -55°C to +155°C, and high stability compared to previous versions. The second product line in the series, RN73H, also offers improved humidity resistance and long-term stability performance.
  • Pulse-Tolerant, Anti-Overvoltage Resistors - The SG73 series is an ideal solution for protecting electronic circuits from extreme surges and pulses, especially in I/O, snubber and gate drive protection circuits. It has up to 10 times the pulse handling capability of standard flat chip resistors, making it suitable for use in automotive electronics, power supplies, motor controls and more. The use of these parts means that fewer parts are used, saving space.
  • Wide Terminal Resistors for High Power Density - The WK73R Series features wide terminals on the long side of the resistor, allowing up to three times the power level of a similar sized part with conventional terminations. The close proximity of the terminals greatly reduces thermal stress between the resistor and the PCB. These parts are perfect for high power density circuits and gate drives used in environmental and industrial applications.
  • Current Sensing Resistors - KOA's TLR series offers the high reliability and performance required for power control circuits such as motor control units, DC-DC converters, CPU current sensors and pulse applications. The special cut-out eliminates hot spots, resulting in a more reliable device with low parasitic inductance. The TLR series provides up to 5 W (100 A) and has superior corrosion and heat resistance.
