NXP Semiconductors provided in recent days an update on the impact of unusually severe winter weather conditions in Austin, Texas, where the company has an office: the suppliers of electricity and natural gas have temporarily suspended service to semiconductor manufacturers in Austin, including NXP, forcing the company to stop production at its two plants.
"We are closely monitoring the situation and will resume operations at our Austin facilities as soon as possible," said David Reed, executive vice president, Operations at NXP. "We are working to keep our Austin facilities in a safe condition to enable reliable, high-quality supply once operations restart. Once the necessary utilities are restored, our operations team will be able to assess the impact of the shutdown and when full production will resume. In the meantime, our focus is on the health and safety of our employees and the Austin community."
The other production facilities outside of Texas are fully operational.
