Five months after the start of construction, the new plant of Phoenix Contact E-mobility plant in the Polish city of Rzeszów is up and running. The first production line for AC charging cables was inaugurated in January at the new 15,000 m2 facility.

Despite all the difficulties caused by the pandemic, the plant was handed over to Phoenix Contact E-Mobility at the end of December, right on schedule. Production of the AC charging cables has already started at the beginning of this year, in line with the steadily growing dynamics of electromobility on the market: in 2020, new registrations of electric vehicles in Germany amounted to just under 200,000, rising to almost 400,000 if plug-in hybrids are also taken into account.

Phoenix Contact E-Mobility was founded in 2013 by parent company Phoenix Contact and has since maintained its headquarters in Schieder-Schwalenberg, North Rhine-Westphalia, near Blomberg, the Group's headquarters. Today the IATF-certified company has more than 300 employees. The two figures who lead the company are Michael Heinemann and Ralf Döhre.

The product portfolio, both in the automotive sector and for manufacturers of charging stations, includes CCS (Combined Charging System) charging cables and is based on HPC (High Power Charging) technology, which enables ultra-fast charging in just a few minutes.

Phoenix Contact and the challenge of E-mobility

Christoph Paetzold, project manager of the new plant in Rzeszów, explains: "Each of these vehicles comes with an AC charging cable in the boot. In addition, incentives provided by car manufacturers and states are helping the expansion of private charging infrastructure across Europe. These measures are also contributing to increased sales of AC charging cables. We are therefore very pleased to have been able to complete the Rzeszów plant in record time, thanks to the cooperation of the Panattoni construction company and the local authorities. The team has already produced the first batch of AC charging cables and we are preparing to increase the number of production lines and hire additional staff in the coming weeks. Our plant will become one of the most important production sites for Phoenix Contact E-Mobility due to its strategic location in the Dworzysko Science and Technology Park and well-developed infrastructure. In parallel, further investments are being made to expand production capacities at the parent company in Germany as well."

The new plant in Rzeszów covers a total area of 15,000 m2 , of which 14,000 m2 is for production and warehousing, with the remaining 1,000 m2 for offices. Over the next few years, the workforce is expected to grow to more than 250 employees.
