Eurotech joined the Cassini Project, initiative with which Arm is committed to investing in creating an ecosystem of standards for IoT development platforms and enabling the deployment of software and cloud applications in the field.

The Cassini Project is an open, collaborative, standards-based initiative that harnesses the power of several Arm-based platforms to create a secure foundation for edge applications. Its potential uses range from exploring the impacts of urbanisation and climate change with software-defined sensor networks, to identifying the origins of power outages in smart grids, to improving public safety initiatives through data streaming.

Eurotech has expertise in building IoT hardware, software and services in a number of vertical markets and, as its Chief Product & Marketing Officer Giuseppe Surace commented: 'The integration of our tested and validated IoT Edge components fits perfectly with the scope of the project, ensuring customers benefit from certified, ready-to-use technologies for even the most complex applications'.

Edge computing allows field systems to process data close to its source. This reduces latency issues in communications between the edge and the data centre, enabling advanced analytics to be performed directly in the field. TheIoT Edge Framework Everyware Software Framework (ESF) provides a flexible, cross-platform development environment for edge computers and IoT gateways and enables the connection between the physical and digital worlds through the creation of digital twins.

"Project Cassini aims to take full advantage of innovation at the edge and accelerate the development of optimised edge computing platforms based on Arm components," said Mohamed Awad, Vide President, IoT Business at Arm. "Incorporating Eurotech's expertise in building industrial embedded systems is another step in advancing the vision of Project Cassini, enabling the deployment of cloud software and applications within a secure and heterogeneous edge ecosystem."

Eurotech and the IoT

Last September, Eurotech has been recognized again by PAC RADAR (teknowlogy Group) among the "Best in Class" suppliers of "IoT platforms based on open source technologies". The purpose of the PAC RADAR research is to provide an overall assessment and market positioning of IoT solution providers, taking into consideration a defined segment. Through the use of predefined parameters, such as revenue volume, development rate and market share, vendors are evaluated and the parameters compared with their specific performance and competencies in their market segment.

The award confirms Eurotech's commitment to being an active part of an IoT ecosystem and the expertise it has acquired in several vertical markets, as well as the quality of its product range, as confirmed by customer testimonials. As the report states: "Eurotech is uniquely positioned to offer edge computers and IoT components, from IoT gateways to edge servers and High Performance Edge Computers (HPEC), integrated with software components and cloud platforms based on open source technologies.

The company contributes to and is a founding member of one of the leading global open source ecosystems, theEclipse IoT Working Group. "We believe that to simplify digital transformation a good strategy is to rely on open source technologies. This allows us to offer our customers and partners tools to develop and deploy IoT solutions quickly, minimising risk and avoiding vendor lock-in," said Robert Andres, CSO of Eurotech. "Our commitment to open source components, together with our Operational Technology (OT) expertise, ensures cost-effective solutions while maintaining high levels of flexibility and security of IoT applications."
