NXP collaborates with Volkswagen in the field of electric vehicles (EVs). Specifically, Volkswagen has adopted NXP's battery management system (BMS) in its innovative modular electrification platform (MEB) to increase vehicle range, extend battery longevity and improve safety. NXP's system provides the flexibility and scalability to meet customers' diverse needs, whether for compact cars such as theinnovative ID.3, plug-in hybrids or luxury electric vehicles such as the ID.4.

"As part of the first phase of Volkswagen's battery electric vehicle initiative, we will deliver up to 75 fully electric vehicle models to market by 2029," said Holger Manz, Head of Development for Vehicle Power and High Voltage Systems, Volkswagen AG. "Incorporating a functionally safe battery management system that can be adapted to many car models makes it easier to achieve the full potential of the battery, optimise its range and extend its life."

After many years of developing electric vehicles in the automotive industry, the main challenge facing the industry remains range extension. With the release of the ID series, Volkswagen is pressing the accelerator with an offer of models powered by 45 kWh, 58 kWh or 77 kWh.

At present, 16 of the top 20 car manufacturers have chosen battery management solutions from NXP.
