element14.com, the Avnet community, has announced its Project14 design challenge inspired by the possibility of reducing e-waste by recycling vintage electronic devices. Members of the online community will have the opportunity to recycle any electronic device and turn it into something new, unique and useful. It is also an idea to pay homage to vintage electronic products, improving them to fit today's electronic environment.

Project14 is a monthly design competition open to makers and engineers of all backgrounds and skill levels, designed to encourage shared learning and collaboration among members of the element14 Community. Participants will be asked to document their progress with a series of blog posts, and the best projects will have the chance to win a $200 gift certificate to be used on the marketplace of Farnell in Europe, Newark North America or element14 the Asia Pacific region.

All Project14 challenges are based on suggestions from members of the element14 Community and the theme is chosen each month through a poll. The Recycle & Retrofit challenge was inspired by a workshop on Vintage Upcycling by Enrico Miglino.

To participate, you need to register for the element14 Community and submit a blog post about your idea and how you plan to develop it. Registration is open until December 14, 2020.
