Metis (Microelectronics Training, Industry and Skills), a consortium funded in 2020 by the European Commission through the Erasmus + programme and coordinated by the industry association Semi Europahas launched an online survey to identify and analyse the new skills and knowledge needed to work in the microelectronics sector in Europe. The survey aims to identify the jobs of the future and to highlight the mismatch between the skills required by this industry and the current supply. The results of the survey will form part of the Metis Skills Strategy, a broad research project aimed at presenting the challenges facing today's workers, assessing the skills supply and providing an Action Plan with measures to close the gap in the microelectronics sector.

Metis brings together 20 partners from 14 different EU countries representing the microelectronics industry (start-ups, SMEs and large companies), national and European associations, educational institutions and regulators in the fields of accreditation and certification: Infineon, Bosch, X-Fab, Graphenea, Summa, Arcelik, Silicon Saxony, imec, Technical University of Graz, Dresden Chip Academy, University of South-Eastern Norway, Technical University of Sofia, Budapest University of Technology and Economics, IAL-FVG, Fast Track into Information Technology, European Association of Career Guidance, European Association for Women in Science, Engineering and Technology, Cimea, Decision and Semi. Consortium members met for the first time in November 2019, the year the project was founded, in Villach, Austria, to identify the skills and related training needed to work in the microelectronics sector and support innovation in areas such as Artificial Intelligence, autonomous driving, Industry 4.0, cybersecurity and advanced electronic systems design.
