Worldwide semiconductor sales increased by 2.1% month-on-month in July, with all major regional markets reporting increased sales. Sia (Semiconductor Industry Association) announced, in fact, that chip sales reached $35.2 billion in July 2020 , registering growth of 4.9% compared to July 2019 and 2.1% compared to June 2020. Monthly sales are compiled by the Wsts organisation and represent a three-month moving average.
"The global semiconductor market remained largely resilient to global macroeconomic headwinds during the first seven months of the year, with sales increasing both year-over-year and month-over-month in July, but substantial market uncertainty remains for the remainder of the year," said John Neuffer, president and CEO of Sia. "Sales in the Americas remained strong in July, increasing 26% year-over-year for both memory and non-memory products."
Regionally, chip sales increased year-on-year in the Americas (26.3 per cent), China (3.5 per cent) and Asia Pacific (1.4 per cent), but declined in Japan (-0.4 per cent) and Europe (- 14.7 per cent). On a monthly basis, sales increased in all regions: Asia Pacific (4.5 per cent), Japan (3.4 per cent), Europe (3.2 per cent), the Americas (0.9 per cent) and China (0.5 per cent).
