How will digital technologies contribute to modernising and enhancing public and private buildings? An answer to this question is offered by the "White Paper on Digital Building in an IOT scenario", the first result of the work of the Digital Building Group. Anie Digital Building Group.

The book takes an in-depth look at the potential of digitally modernising buildings, the opportunities in terms of services and applications offered by the increasingly widespread use of interconnected IoT technologies, the obstacles to be overcome and the growth prospects of the construction market.

Particular emphasis is placed on the Smart Homewhere the various services that normally form part of the building's technological infrastructure are linked together in order to optimise performance and management, improve living comfort and energy management with a view to saving money and increase the safety of people and property.

While attention to the benefits of digitalisation and access to smart technologies is clearly on the rise among users, the entire building system is not as responsive. The level of technology in Italian homes and buildings is far from adequate. In fact, all studies converge in highlighting the enormous potential for economic growth, if buildings were actually protagonists in the digital transition process underway.

Boston Consulting Group Boston Consulting Group estimated in 2018 that the use of new software applications and digital platforms could lead to a reduction in the total lifecycle cost of a construction project of almost 20%. For the non-residential sector, for example, the analysis estimated that savings could range from 13 to 21 per cent in the design and construction phases, and from 10 to 17 per cent in the asset management phase.

Filippo Girardi, Vice President of Federazione ANIE, commented: "As well as providing important food for thought in the current scenario, characterised by the Covid 19 pandemic crisis, theWhite Paper is proposed with the ambition of helping to fuel a debate with the institutions and within the supply chain to share requirements, expectations and needs and create favourable conditions for modernising our buildings and homes in a digital and circular way".

The White Paper is the first important step in a wide-ranging ANIE project, with specific strands of activity underway on the "digital" certification of buildings, on technological adaptation for greater safety and comfort, on the theme of cybersecurity and of artificial intelligence.artificial intelligence in the context of the building.
