In data reported by Seeds, semiconductor equipment manufacturers reported 2019 sales of $59.8 billion, reporting a 7% decline from the all-time high of $64.5 billion achieved in 2018.
Holding the market for new semiconductor manufacturing equipment is Taiwan, which recorded a turnover of $17.12 billion in 2019, reporting a growth of 68% and ousting Korea from the top spot. China maintained its position as the second largest market with a turnover of $13.45 billion, followed by Korea, at $9.97 billion, which recorded a 44% drop in turnover. While markets in Japan, Europe and Rest of the World contracted, North American equipment sales increased by 40% to $8.15 billion in 2019.
Sales of wafer processing equipment in 2019 decreased by 6%, while sales of other front-end segments grew by 9%. Assembly and packaging activities, along with sales of final test equipment, also declined, by 27% and 11% respectively.
