Lattice Semiconductor Corporation has launched Lattice Propel, a software solution designed to accelerate the development of unique Lattice Fpga-based applications with low form factor and low power consumption. The design environment will enable developers, regardless of their skill level, to quickly and easily design Lattice Fpga-based applications by enabling easy assembly of components in an IP-core library that includes a RISC-V processor core and peripheral devices. The Propel design environment automates the development of applications designed for multiple industries - communications, computing, industrial, automotive and consumer.

"We are offering a reliable design environment that supports open standards such as RISC-V to enable customers to use a powerful IP-core ecosystem of processors without being hampered by proprietary standards and technologies," explains Gianluca Mariani, Technical Manager at Lattice Semiconductor. "When combined with Fpga reprogrammability, the Propel environment makes it easy to upgrade existing hardware and software to meet industry standards and emerging technologies such as Platform Firmware Resiliency." The software fits into Lattice's roadmap towards creating low-power, small form factor embedded solutions.

"The launch of the Propel design environment is another example of Lattice's ongoing investment in offering developers comprehensive software solutions that simplify and accelerate the creation of low-power Fpga-based applications," adds Roger Do, Senior Product Line Manager at Lattice. "For beginning FPGA developers, Propel's graphical user interface (GUI) simplifies the design process by enabling them to drag and drop blocks of IP cores from the Lattice library into their designs; the tool then automates the design layout to incorporate the new IP cores. For experienced developers, Propel also supports script-level editing to optimise a more granular design or quickly update existing designs for transfer to future Lattice FPGA-based systems.

  • Lattice Propel Builder - IP-core integration environment with complete set of command line tools and GUI. To simplify the connection and management of IP cores in more complex systems, all available IP cores are compatible with the AMBA on-chip interconnection specification.
  • Lattice Propel SDK - industry standard software development tools, software libraries and development board support packages so that developers can create, compile, analyse and debug application software quickly and easily.
