Micron Publishes Fifth Annual Sustainability Report

Micron commits to invest approximately $1 billion over the next five to seven years in environmental sustainability initiatives

In its fifth annual sustainability reportMicron Technology outlines its vision to help create a healthier, more equitable society. The company plans to invest about 2 percent of its capital spending in environmental sustainability initiatives, amounting to about $1 billion over the next five to seven years. The report was prepared in accordance with the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) and Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SABS) standards for semiconductors.

A commitment of over 40 years

For more than 42 years, Micron has been committed to supporting communities and the environment. Today, among its goals is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 40 percent from 2018 standards to help combat climate change in line with international emissions and energy agreements. How? By committing to 100% water conservation practices through efficiency, reuse and recovery, and reducing waste sent to landfill to zero through reduction, reuse and recycling.

Main points of the Sustainability Report

    • Nomination to the World Economic Forum's Global Lighthouse Network program as a "lighthouse company" for the application ofInternet of Things (IoT) and industrial technologies to drive operational and environmental change.
    • Highest score according to the Responsible Business Alliance (RBA) code of conduct, with a recycling and reuse rate of 74% and energy savings of over 50,000 MWh, achieved through the implementation of conservation measures in Micron's cleanrooms.
    • High gender equality with new female appointments to Micron's Board of Directors and the first Vice President for Diversity, Equality & Inclusion role, the creation of three new Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) to diversify the employee population, and growth in ERG membership of 72%.
    • Contribution of $35 million for the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic for active support of local outreach initiatives at the proposal of staff, co-funding of an additional $10,000 per employee, and introduction of a program to equalize the value of each donation.
