Training takes the field against Covid-19. Company line-upThe Covid-19, the joint interprofessional fund that finances continuous training, with over 110,000 registered companies and 775,000 workers, has publishedNotice 2 of 2020, allocating 3.5 million euros to complete the qualification of human resources. This injection of resources is in addition to the 4.7 million already allocated under Notice 1 of 2020.

Technology 4.0 and digitisation

"We knew that 2020," explains Director Rossella Spada, "would be a difficult year, not least because the end of the previous year had shown results that did not live up to expectations for the national economy. The crisis triggered by Covid, of course, made things even more difficult. We covered the first four months with EUR 8.2 million in funding. These are secure and timely resources aimed at supporting companies in a phase in which fear may arise due to the uncertain macroeconomic context. Reductions in Italy's GDP and in the major European and world economies may discourage companies from carrying out their planned programmes. But the 'Italian System' cannot afford to give up on investments and the most innovative projects. The path of development must continue. We know that the post-Coronavirus market will never be the same again, and businesses, in order to be truly competitive, will have to make more widespread and organic use of 4.0 technology and the logic of digitalisation. It is important, therefore, that we are willing and able to finance training plans that reward renewal and digital transformation".

Technological modernisation of SMEs

The promotion of agile working, the remote management of activities and operations, and the use of artificial intelligence are all issues that fall within the scope of the 'Health Emergency'.Formazienda Notice 2. "One of the aims is to support the digitalisation of business processes and technological modernisation in SMEs in all economic sectors," explains director Spada, "while another aim expressly set out in the notice is to support the competitiveness of businesses in the health emergency phase. These are two aspects that cannot be separated. Digital technology, which made it possible not to interrupt activities during the blockade, will also be decisive in the return to normality phase.

As soon as it became clear that workers needed to be made safe and to avoid the spread of infection, Formazienda immediately promoted the use of distance learning as an alternative to classroom lessons. At the same time, employees of the Fund started to work in Smart Working mode.

"The blockade has highlighted the irreplaceable contribution made by technology and the network. But, as all experts point out, this is a path that does not foresee any setbacks and that, on the contrary, is part of a phenomenon of transition to digital technology that affects all businesses and that requires a general process of alignment of skills and abilities. The need also applies to SMEs and companies with a leaner structure. Itis the market that requires the most suitable resources to deal with an epoch-making change, which has been made even more urgent by the health emergency".

Continuous training for all professionals

Formazienda finances the training of all company personnel: technicians, workers, clerks, managers and also apprentices. The use of individual vouchers is also possible. In order to have access to the resources allocated to finance the training plans of employees, the company must be a member of the Fund. Since 2008, Formazienda, a fund created through an agreement between the employers' union Sistema Impresa and Confsal, has provided 140 million euros. Notice 2, as director Spada explains, also has the task of "giving a signal of impulse to guarantee the stability of the labour market by acting directly on recruitment. In fact, the training plans that establish the contractualisation of the unemployed will receive a bonus for the purposes of the final score, thus conditioning access to funding".

Formazienda's planning for 2020 will proceed through other initiatives. "We did not stop at the height of the emergency," concludes Rossella Spada. "And we won't do so now that it is essential to join forces in order to restart. We know that on training depend the practices that allow a company to operate successfully in the market, protect jobs, create wealth for the nation. We are not stopping because the whole of Italy that produces and works is asking us not to stop. We simply don't want to be less than the tens of thousands of companies with whom we work every day and who represent the backbone of the nation.
