The transition to the new 5G networks will affect the way we use smartphones and many other devices: what will it mean to live in a world where everything will be connected, from people to cars talking to each other, to doctors communicating with patients' personal medical devices?
In an effort to inform and promote awareness about fifth generation networks, a topic on which there is no shortage of speculation, the community element14 has published an eBook entitled "What you need to know about 5G".
The eBook covers the basic concepts:
- evolution from 1G to 5G
- comparison of different generations of mobile phone technology
- potential applications of 5G
Dianne Kibbey, Community and Social Media Manager for element14 said: "The element14 community aims to support engineers throughout their careers and provide a range of ways in which they can develop their skills and update their knowledge. Our latest eBook explains what this latest upcoming revolution will have to offer". The eBook is free for community members.
Fifth generation networks in Italy
"5G is the fifth generation of mobile connection, it offers enormous potential for the development of services to citizens and businesses, making current communication systems extremely more efficient, not only in terms of speed of connections, but more generally in terms of reliability, continuity, security and quality of services," reads the website of the Ministry of Economic Development, which in 2017 activated five experimental projects (in Milan, Prato, L'Aquila, Bari and Matera) and in 2018 launched the call for the assignment of frequencies on the national territory. With the DM 26 March 2019, it then approved the 5G Emerging Technologies Support Programme.
