It is a future-proof solution born from the collaboration between Advantech e Trell Technologieswho have designed an intelligent building monitoring solution based on IoT technology.

To embrace the trends of IoT, big data and artificial intelligence.artificial intelligence, Advantech promotes integrated hardware and software solutions, based on the WISE-PaaS Edge Intelligence IoT platform.

In the case of the collaboration with Trell Technologies, the requirement was to provide a system for remote monitoring of temperature, humidity and external doors in a residential building in Sweden, during the 5-year warranty period applicable to all new buildings of that type. The system created by Advantech is completely independent of the sensor supplier, so customers can test different sensors and enjoy maximum flexibility in various building types. Temperature and humidity sensing is done through Advantech's Edge Intelligent gateways, which provide a private LoRaWAN local area network and backhaul data via cellular connection to the cloud.

In this project, the sensing nodes were also provided by third-party manufacturers of commercially available consumer-grade LoRaWAN sensors, which were selected by the customer based on their appearance. All sensors were easily integrated into the hardware system implemented by Advantech.

The door monitors have been wired locally to the physical block, and provide updates on the 4 possible states: door open, closed, locked and unlocked. This information is collected via an Advantech I/O module that transmits it to the data repository based on the state of changes, eliminating unnecessary data updates.

Advantech's WISE-PaaS cloud platform was used for this experimental implementation; however, there is no exclusive agreement and this specific application is expected to migrate to the customer's Microsoft Azure cloud service in the future, which will be possible due to the fact that Advantech's software blocks can be located anywhere, so the customer can rely on the most suitable solution according to the specific requirements of each project.

"This is an example of a truly flexible and scalable solution - values that underpin what Advantech offers its customers," said Bobby Vale, head of IoT ecosystem and platforms at Advantech. "We work with our partners to provide the best solution for our customers, and this application alone highlights how technology can make buildings smart, more efficient and sustainable for their owners, as well as provide peace of mind and comfort for those who live in them."

The Advantech Embedded-IoT Group not only offers a wide range of integrated Design-In services, but also develops a range of integrated IoT solutions and services to assist customers approaching the IoT market while minimizing uncertainty and risk factors. Advantech's integrated IoT solutions include sensing sensors and gateways to the WISE-PaaS IoT software platform.
