The Ics series of Rohm Semiconductor BD783xxEFJ-M can provide output short-circuit overcurrent protection, a feature that was difficult to achieve in the past combined with high output power (2.8 W max., into a 4 Ω load and 10% distortion); it is also qualified to address the AEC-Q100 automotive reliability standard and withstands a maximum operating temperature of 105 °C. At the same time, the adoption of a power package reduces heat generation even at high volumes, resulting in stable audio output without compromising functionality - even under severe conditions. In addition to overcurrent protection, thermal shutdown and undervoltage lockout are built-in, preventing damage caused by abnormal heat generation and unexpected crackling noises during battery interruptions.
The BD783xxEFJ-M series is mounted on Cypress Semiconductor's S6J3360 series of Traveo™ board microcontrollers for automotive applications, which enables easy evaluation under real-world conditions.
The line will be expanded to include a total of 11 models with values ranging from +6 dB to +26 dB, in 2 dB increments.
Recent automotive innovations - such as autonomous driving systems and driver assistance systems - require a greater variety of sounds (audible warnings of lane departure or surrounding obstacles), and instrument panel audio output systems use microcontroller-based sound diffuser amplifiers. Rohm's solution enables safe and stable sound output associated with high volumes.
