22

Micron Technology has decided to donate USD 35 million for the benefit of those affected by the Coronavirus. The American company will launch a new 'Micron Foundation' charity fund totalling $10 million, 'increase co-funding grants and establish a financial aid programme for staff'.

The company will also offer assistance 'to speed up the payment of small local suppliers and will donate medical facilities and supplies to respond to the health emergency'.

"The health and safety of our teams and partners," said president and CEO Sanjay Mehrotra, "and the well-being of the communities in which we operate, are top priorities for Micron. The worsening of the Covid-19 pandemic prompts us to immediately intensify our efforts to allocate funds, resources and aid to those most affected by this health crisis."

The $10 million from the Micron Foundation Covid-19 Relief Fund will be used for global economic recovery initiatives, "addressing the current and future needs of affected communities. The fund will support a variety of charities and initiatives ranging from food banks and school lunch programmes to healthcare facilities and online training resources for students.

Micron's support for the community

Micron then implemented a corporate co-financing plan that doubles all donations to the Covid-19 emergency under the Micron Gives charity programme.

To further help affected communities, Micron will provide 300,000 protective masks to local health workers and make Micron facilities available as shelters for patients if there are no more places left in the hospitals.

The US group will also make "a one-off payment for the Covid-19 emergency by offering $1,000 to employees in the US with annual salaries of less than $100,000 and appropriately proportionate amounts in the other countries in which we operate. This initiative will affect more than 68 per cent of Micron's workforce worldwide".

Micron will also invest "in an employee-funded fund to help those in financial difficulty. The fund will allocate up to $5,000 to individual team members based on need."
