Renesas announces the next generation of mmWave synthesisers with a set of unique new features designed specifically for 5G and broadband radio transmission.

The flagship 8V97003 is ideal as a local oscillator for mmWave and beamforming, or as a precise reference clock for high-speed A/D converters used in applications such as measuring instruments, optical communications equipment and data acquisition.

Wide bandwidth, low phase noise and high output power

The 8V97003 provides the best combination of bandwidth (171.875 MHz to 18 GHz), very low phase noise (-60.6 dBc between 20 kHz to 100 MHz measured at 6 GHz), and high output power across the entire frequency range. The wide frequency range allows designers to use the 8V97003 in place of several modules, thus reducing the area occupied and the total cost.

The high output power eliminates the need for an additional stage, thus reducing system complexity and total power consumption while improving performance. The extremely low phase noise makes this device the ideal choice for 5G applications and radio systems in general, as it guarantees better levels of signal-to-noise ratio and Error Vector Magnitude.

When used as a reference clock for high-speed converters, the 8V97003 maximises system performance by improving the signal-to-noise ratio and SFDR (Spurious Free Dynamic Range) value.
