Japanese company Murata has opened a new factory in Vantaa, Finland, increasing the size of the current site by a third for the production and development of new products.
The company's large investment of €42 million has expanded the total area of the new plant to 16,000 square metres. The Mems sensors produced by Murata at the Vantaa site are mainly used in automotive safety systems, industrial equipment and medical devices such as pacemakers.
The growth of Mems sensors
The company is also developing safety and positioning control technologies used in both advanced driver assistance systems and autonomous vehicles.
"The market for autonomous vehicles and adas systems," said Yuichiro Hayata, Managing Director of Murata Electronics OY, Murata's Finnish subsidiary, "isset to grow in the near future, and Mems sensors are widely used in this sector due to their excellent measurement accuracy and reliable performance under varying operating conditions. With theexpansion of our production site, we are ready to meet the increased demand for Mems sensors, as well as establish synergies between our technological expertise in Mems and Murata's production capabilities.
A state-of-the-art building
State-of-the-art construction techniques were adopted for the expansion of the production site. As the sensors are very sensitive elements, the structure of the building is very rigid in order to mitigate the effects of ground vibrations, which can be particularly damaging. As the sensors are housed in 'clean rooms', particularly innovative solutions were adopted for the ventilation of the entire complex.
