The first impact of the new Coronavirus we noticed at the end of February, when Embedded Worldafter the announcement that the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona (held at the same time) would be cancelled and the most important international players in the sector (ST, Microchip, Rohm, Avnet, Arrow, to name but a few) decided to open their doors anyway.

Difficult balance sheet for Embedded World with over 200 defections

NürnbergMesse is nonetheless positive about this edition, despite the fact that more than 200 companies withdrew their participation at short notice: 900 exhibitors from 42 countries (compared to 1,117 in 2019), 13,800 visitors, more than half the number of the 2019 edition, which had 31,000 visitors.

"Over the past few years we have seen an increasing number of visitors, year after year," says Thomas Preutenborbeck of NürnbergMesse. "Unfortunately, this year the trend has reversed. The cancellations due to the Coronavirus have destabilised many exhibitors and visitors who should have come from all over the world. Some exhibitors were negative about the exhibition, but many companies responded positively and organised important business meetings during the three days of the fair.

Connecting Embedded Intelligence

More than 1,500 participants and speakers from 46 countries attended the conferences. Under the slogan 'Connecting Embedded Intelligence', the focus was on the huge amounts of data that can be obtained, the possibility of sending them to the cloud and processing them.

Other topics under observation included the security of electronic systems, distributed intelligence, the Internet of Things, e-mobility and energy efficiency. Solutions in the field of artificial intelligence were another central topic: here the focus was on potential areas of application.
