Infineon and academia have started working on two new research projects in the field of post-quantum cryptography to address a major security challenge: quantum computers have the potential to breach cryptographic schemes such as RSA and ECC, which are currently used to encrypt personal and sensitive data. Ultimately, the confidentiality of digital communication and data exchange in mobile communications, the Internet of Things or the public domain could be at risk.

The areas of interest of the projects

The aim of these projects is to develop secure quantum safety mechanisms based on chips. Both projects are publicly funded by the German Federal Ministry of Research and Education.

The projects focus on the following topics

  • Future-proof security for industrial control systems and smart cards;
  • Long-term safety of integrated health technology systems;
  • Security market orientation with continuous research and innovation.
